Welsh Pony Legacy
The Welsh Pony has been bred for centuries in the rugged hills of Wales, with roots believed to date back even before Roman times. Shaped by harsh terrain and limited resources, these ponies developed exceptional hardiness, strength, and a reliable, willing temperament.

In 1901, the Welsh Pony and Cob Society was established, followed by the official stud book in 1902. Around this time, the breed was formally divided into four distinct sections. Earlier influences from Hackney, Thoroughbred, and Arabian bloodlines helped refine the breed’s movement and versatility.
Welsh ponies were introduced to the United States in the late 1800s, and the Welsh Pony and Cob Society of America was formed in 1907. Their popularity surged in the 1950s, and today they remain one of the most versatile and beloved pony breeds.
